Alpha-1 Anti-Tripsin Deficiency: What It Means Clinically
alpha-1 anti-tripsin deficiency is associated with emphysema and baryonchiactis in the lungs. Too much elastase activity, that leads to tissue destruction in the lungs; if it involves the alveoli and the parencoma, then you're going to get emphysemma. And if it's involving more destruction of the airways, then you get bronchiactasis and that sort of airway dilation.
