In the 1940s she was a young woman you know also struggling to bring up a family she had three sons one of whom was adopted and also to find her place in the University of New York Art world. She lived in this apartment block in Manhattan and she used the roof space I'm aware as an open-air studio. Her work was really reflecting at that time the kind of verticality and then what begins is this incredible series called personages.
