The Difference Between Bimodal and Binary in Biology
There is no simple categorization in biology because all boundaries are fuzzy. Up to 1.7% of the US population, it's estimated are intersex. If somebody is identified as intersex, neither male nor female, how do they operate in a world that forces them to choose at every turn? And that's the real issue, I think, when the social justice conversation up. But science shows even as something as simple as the intersex individual, that exists in the world and that we should talk about these issues.
