Cafe Monte - A Memoir of the Past

In 16 83, the ottoman army from turkey arrived in vienna. One of their attempts to enter vienna took place in the early morning. By dawn, they were already at work making bread and biscuits. Some said the shape of these traditional austrian biscuits was a reference to turkey. To celebrate the turkish defeat, the bakers invented a new kind of biscuit,. shaped like the moon, a symbol of turkey. These biscuits soon became a popular desire to cross austria, especially at christmas.
