Warua's Sentence Is Indeterminate
In the spring of 2022, I attended a legislative review of Warua's case via a video link. The review was mandated by law to determine if he should be released on either day or full parole. It was a lengthy hearing held over two dates, one in February and one in March. Warua told the parole board of Canada that much of his criminal background can be attributed to addictions; said he has been an addict for over 20 years. He went on to tell the board that he's been clean for over two years. But psychological assessments indicate the now 40-year-old remains a high risk for reoffending.
