The Home Across the River by Sarah Ashton

Alex Ashman's debut novel The Home Across the River is complete at 113,000 words. Set in an alternate reality where Britain is sliding inexorably towards civil war. We follow the Ashton family as they fight first to survive the conflict before then taking a treacherous journey across land and water toward a salvation not all will survive to see. This novel was inspired by my time working in the refugee camps of Greece. There I met the most wonderful people with the most harrowing stories but yet through it all they were stoic and graceful.
