Paintings are symbols of mortality, and they are sharing with us. Aknowledge that their days are and that time is going on inexorably. Danteville had 22 years to go before he died. But poor old george desel only had eight years left. I feel that their hold on the life of the present was every bit as strong in some cases, as i think, much stronger than others.
