Will the Pension Tax Changes Make a Difference?
The BMA and specialist accountants say the changes are a big win for retention of doctors in the NHS workforce. The vast majority of GPs will no longer be affected by annual allowance tax charges. But London-wide LMCs pointed out that although some early retirements might be avoided, general practice is still a really difficult place to work. While the pension changes are welcome, they won't go far enough to improve morale among doctors if they come alongside a failure to address erosion of pay over the past decade and a half.
