Emily Dickinson's Poems

Emily Dickinson's poems are like an archaeological dig. Just when you think you have exhausted them of their meaning, another layer yet shows up. The original publishers in 1890 combed through Emily's 1,789 poems and there were a handful like this one that were too unconventional for the time. Maybe too masculine for a female writer, or very likely, they just didn't fit with the narrative that the publishers were trying to sell us.
