The Origins of Woman

There are all sorts of folk etymologies for women and how you've exploded them. Some Renaissance linguists thought that woman's origin might be womb man, so a human with a womb. So the puzzle then is what does we've made? And it proves. I've read everything I can find on this word. It's a bit of an etymological mystery where there are just speculations. But no one's really short, so I was interested that if you followed it right back, it didn't take you anywhere definitive.
