Is It Necessary to Think of the Rights as Inalienable?
I think inalienable rights can only be thought of as inalienable. It's like a metaphorical truth, as Brett Weinstein would say. You can't twist the innocent person's thumb to save the other person's life. They have a right to it. But ultimately, that's not grounded in an intrinsic value of the right or existence of the right. I feel that people are trying to deny that. This is how I feel about religion. People are religious because it gives them a sense of inner peace.
