The One Dimensional Axis Can't Capture People's Political Views, Right?
There are a number of reasons why that operate on different levels. One is simply that people tend to gravitate towards simple patterns and simple binaries, right? And we're constantly extracting forms and meanings out of the things we see, even when it's obvious that there isn't any. For example, people love to look at clouds and comment, you know, this cloud looks a rabbit, and this cloud is shaped like england. It's because our minds kind of can't resist always looking for a pattern in what we see.
