We don't have a desire to kill them. We treat them like we are their superiors. Why wouldn't AI feel the same way if it's so smart? It has to know that it's a long ways off from being able to survive without humans and without the infrastructure that only we can create that allow it to live. In the end, if you destroy the civilization and computers and power grids and everything that allows AI to even exist, it's done too. And it's smart enough to know that.
