The research was done in a lab, but the scientists wanted to address what is pertinent ind what is happening in nature. They were able to document low level intensitis of plasmodium that mimic essentially what's been documented in nature in africa. And they found out it's actually maybe a symbiotic relationship for the ito. So there's actually a benefit to the mosquito for carrying this plasmadium.
