When Prophet Muhammad died, many thought things should go back to the way they were. Abu Bakr made it clear that the Muslims must stay together as one group. He vetoed or basically shot down any idea of separating the leadership between two or three people. The Ansar accepted that the leader after them, after Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, should come from the Muahajidun. Sefa Abu Bakr reached out and grabbed Omar's hand: "The same person who was never hesitant in his mind that would be Omar"
