The Double Edged Sword of First Impressions

We're terrible at mind reading. We think we have a good idea of what might be going on in somebody else's head when we're talking to them but literally we only accurately surmise what's what's going on in their head. With strangers we hit 20% with friends 30% and with spouses we top out of 35%. The double edged sword of first impressions is that while we are more accurate than not in general those first impressions tend to stick so even if they're inaccurate that 30% of the time those impressions tend tostick.
