For the large majority of people who identify as transgender, their biological sex is straightforwardly male or female. There's a third category of psychologically where many in our culture are saying that somebody's internal psychological sense of their maleness or femaleness trumps their biological sexmale or female. We have often talked as if there is a sort of set group of psychological features that are intrinsic to maleness and femaleness rather than just like average differences between men and women.
