The Battle of Fratigny
Treaty of Fratigny was reached in 1360 after a devastating storm battered Edward's army. The French King John would be released from house arrest so he could return to France. In exchange for those concessions, Edward agreed to give up his claim to the French throne. Geoffrey Chaucer was paid nine shillings to travel to Calais and then to England with specific questions that had come up during negotiations. He then returned to France to deliver the answers.
