What William Was Doing Was Ruthless, Vicious, and Very Tactical
Historian bates notes that the exceptionally low doomsday book values along the south bank of the thames must also indicate that deliberate destruction was employed there to show william's disapproval. The sources give the impression that the main thing that made william ful wasn't his own prowess or skill, but instead, it was the short sighted, self serving opportunism and cowardice that took place amongst the english aristocracy and abandoned by their leaders. And so while many were preparing to go forth, to battle the earls withdrew their support.
