Is Pastoralism a Kind of Proto-Capitalism?
There is this surprisingly lively debate in anthropological theory about whether pastoralism is a kind of proto capitalism. The people say, say things like, I'm going to capture your attention and milk you right? But what they do say is they have these set of metaphors that I get into in a later chapter where they talk about themselves as park rangers or farmers or gardeners. And so there really is kind of a weirdly, there's a connection there to metaphors that they're using in a different way.
