China's Xi Censorship
Xi thinks the Soviet Union fell apart because its leaders lost control of the historical narrative. He's determined not to repeat the same mistake, so everything available for public consumption must face Beijing's army of censors. Lots of foreign music, movies, and books never make it in at all. If they do, whole sections are often deleted in order to meet Xi's exacting idea of propriety. Chinese children's cartoon Peppa Pig was axed in a broader campaign against undue Western influence.
