The Role of Lay Elders in the Bible
In person, there are five. Those who are particularly good at teaching are to be set aside by paying them money so they don't have to do anything else. The staff elders, as we would say here at CHPC, are the people who are being pastors full time. That's their jobs. So are lay elders in the Bible? Well, again, for some of the five by implication or if you go to Titus chapter one where Titus is to make sure there are elders in every town. And I think by implication, probably some other places as well in the New Testament like this one.
