The Role of Ritual in Criminal Justice
The 1954 Supreme Court ruling in Brown versus Board of Education was influenced in part by the findings of a Clark study. Chief Justice Earl Warren wrote that to separate black children, quote, solely because of their race, generates a feeling of inferiority. They were showing that separate but equal was still making black kids feel inferior and not worthy.
