The Anglo-Spanish War in Ireland
Six thousand men were sent to shore up the defences of ireland. Only around four thousand of the six thousand men that the spanish sent actually arrive in ireland. About two thousand of the soldiers are forced to return to spain. So a significantly weaker force than was sent out arrived in ireland and fortify their positions against the nearby english garrisons. But further problems, it only got worse from there.
