The Academic Enterprise Is Fundamentally Irrational

In life, all too often our aims are problematic. We strive to achieve things and that have all sorts of undesirable, unforeseen consequences. It then began to occur to me that if we take the whole academic enterprise as having at least two aims, first of all improving our knowledge and understanding, but also promoting human welfare... Then er, and we take this elementary idea of amonted rationality, the generalization of aimoted empiricism, i would have an improved notion of reason. And and so ete. Dece idea would be that in life, teyare not just in science, but in life, allToo often our aims were problematic.
