What Happened at the Welcome Banquet?

The conservative nobles and the royal family were openly jubilant to see this stiff reinforcement of troops now here to protect them. Then on october first, a welcome banquet was held in their honor. Now it does not matter in the slightest what actually happened at the banquet that night. All that matters is what was reported to have happened. The king and the queen had somewhat unconventionally come down to the banquet themselves. So clearly this all met with their hearty approval.
