The Importance of Helping Mortgage Owners
Houses today are about double the size that they were in 1950. Part of that is because it's cheaper to build them than it used to be. But part of it is because we've intentionally tried to get people to buy houses and we've created it as a wealth vehicle for most Americans. So, if you can get that loan from the bank, you want to get as big of a house as you can. It drives up prices for other people who don't have enough money to rent one. And then Jen, your point was right: encouraging everybody to get a loan like 2008 has really deleterious effects on us all.
