Are We Seeing Evidence That the Norway Rat Is a New Kind of Offshoot of the Original Rat Population?
The Norway rat did not originally evolve to be an urban thing. Are we seeing evidence that the city rat is actually a new sort of offshoot of the original kind of rat population? It's really hard to study wild rats, so the only thing the genetics guys can do is get tail snits and rats that are already dead. Who knows if the population of already dead rats really represents the true population of rats.
