I think every parent, my understanding feels that to some degree. Reading the book is fascinating because it's like you really do see these like moments of self-harm and just total lack of clarity - not by her own doing. She's by all the people and institutions surrounding her. I feel like we look at history and sometimes we expect people to be able to step out of this infrastructure but for so many people it can't even be a conscious decision," she said.
