What's the Difference Between Eastern and Western Hermitism?

Eastern hermits are doing so in a reaction and Westerners perhaps still have that sort of idea of the frontier, the individual. I think maybe the Western expression of hermitism succeeds most when it's similar to the motive of Chinese even if the element of the love of God is not the same in the case of China. But there's some equivalent as far as motivation that is still positive. When the desert hermits form as the earth or increase in numbers, it's really a response to the increasing centralization of the empire.
