I once smoked marijuana at the age of 30. I said, oh my God, I'm never doing that again. And I never did. It wasn't a question of, you know, super self-control. I didn't want to. So that's how I described myself. But like a lot of intellectuals, I am on the left, but very moderately on the left. For instance, I've got a family that I support and all of these things. The things of my childhood, Quaker childhood, have become very, very important to me. Education isn't just learning French of regular verbs. Education is helping young people grow up."
