The Importance of Grammar in English
When I was a child, I was a big fan of Sherlock Holmes stories. That kind of probably influenced my decision to go into that world. And what a detective really does is induce. When I was teaching grammar, especially to higher level students, advanced students, that's what worked best for them. They would get stuck with these weird sentences that they may read or hear and not understand what was happening with them. So we would take those inductively reason out the structure so that they could understand how it was working to communicate its meaning.
