The Role of Extracellular Matrix in Cognitive Flexibility

Gull Dolan from Johns Hopkins in the US found that psychedelic effects were lasting for 48 hours to four weeks after taking a drug. He and his team identified 65 genes that seem to be involved when this critical period was open in mice. Of those, around 20% seemed to be involved in regulating something known as the extracellular matrix. This increased malleability of the brain structures could be what's behind the brain's ability to absorb more information during these critical periods.
