The Confusion in the Senate Document on Religious Freedom
The preamble of the document brackets the that whole question and it says we're just going to look at the the native authority of this of civil society. It's not a rejection of the previous integralism of popes who rained from the frank revolution to vatican ii all of whom were emphatically integralist in the sense that we've discussed here. The rhetoric that it uses is borrowed from the opponents of the church so there's this ideal of appropriating the language of uh the age of the modern world which i think they take to be secular liberalism and turning it toward the ends of the church but this is very potentially misleading.
