The Rabbit Part of a Rabbit

In a Star Trek-like mechanism, there is some kind of translation scheme going on between humans and aliens. In the alien case, you've got this problem of defining social terms in terms of other social terms. Indefinitely, you can never root them in anything we can totally understand or the alien can totally understand. So we have this parallel problem. I always wanted to say another angle that one can take. We've had an alien coming toward us. It's like any child would first learn how to use a language. And gradually, over time, it picks up our words and picks up our ways of using these words.
