When I was writing the stories in Civil War, I didn't really know what anybody would feel. So I kind of developed this idea that what you want to do in fiction anyway is you want to create this space. It's like I'm trying to make a roller coaster that's really intense. But there is some weird thing where honoring the sort of internal dynamics of the story makes it say something. And the thing that I live for is that it says stuff that I did not believe.
