The Mysticism of the Universe
Do you think it becomes harder and harder for human beings to just comprehend where we live and where we are? Well, I think that if they actually do comprehend the scale of the universe, then for an awful lot of them, that can get them into terrible trouble. One of my favourite writers, the American uber-paranoid, HP Lovecraft, who filled his stories with these huge tentacled monsters. And so that was what he was reacting to. It was this sense of alienation, and it was suddenly a big scary cosmos,. He turned it all into tentacled monster, which is one approach. I wouldn't recommend it, but it worked for him, you know.
