The Importance of Graduation

Kids turn apathy as a sense of defiance. Who cares about grades? Middle school students often do that. As academic performance falls from failing effort it should be good enough to just get by is how they feel. What they're really trying to say is they're trying to find their identity. And at this point that seems to be more important to them than their grades. That doesn't mean parents should let up on that education. What it does mean is they have to make room for their personality development and also hold them accountable for their grades.
