The Romanticism of the Enlightenment

I find the romantics to be so inspiring. They really speak to my Jewish identity as somebody who doesn't just want to be folded into the European Enlightenment project and have my particularism done away with. Those very same romantics were the founding theorists of kind of modern nationalism with anti-Semitism as the go-to scapegoat that basically culminated in the Holocaust. So like the romantics gave us Zionism they gave us non-seism they gave us a lot of a lot of things a mixed blessing and I'm not sure I want to do away with them despite their influence.
