As soon as my first book came out, i was able to live a life where sometimes my book walked ahead of me. You once you've writen one novel, youe a good novel you're a novelist for life. I don't think i then grew as a novelist so much by reading novels as by talking about novels with other novelists who were so far ahead of me in ther understanding of what to do with story.
