The Impact of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence on the Workplace

There is a perennial divide between the technological optimists and the technological pessimists. The artificial intelligence discussion is focused more on so called white collar jobs, those in which the cognitive component of the work is higher. Will we see a decimation of blue collar jobs, and then a huge number of dispirited workers and laborers who are not able to keep pace with the rate of change? And will that economic devastation put pressure on politicians to expand the welfare state to look after those who are structurally unemployed?
