How Important Is Depression to Securing the Loser's Consent?
The idea of the loser's consent is very important in a democracy. In political science, we have this idea that elections work not because of the winners, but because of the losers. The losing side can induce a sense of disappointment which then sort of propels them to step away from the political process and let the winners come to power. And I think we saw how important depression can be to securing the lose's consent through an election where people weren't depressed.
