The Art History of the Artist
The tales are commentaries upon the art and the relationship between the character of the person and the art. The historical exactitude accuracy of these tales is really not our concern. Here we are dealing with a form of art history that progresses by an anecdote to make commentary on the art ray. This comes from this dual nature of art, the very fleshy, earthy aspect of it that takes physical things from the earth and shapes them and gets better and better. And then the personal, individual sense of imagination and humana feeling that breathes that technique to life in painting.
