The value of the potato study is that it was resetting the table a bit. It would be impossible to get a meaningful answer at a high level about how screens as a blanket category affects people's lives. The legitimate worry is that there are obvious and measured increases in depression among young people. You look at rates of depression and suicidality among teenage girls and it's incontrovertible that something is happening.
