Starbucks
Two Deaf women were either refused service or treated poorly when they tried to place orders at a Starbucks on Aster Place in Manhattan. They'd gone there along with another group of people from the Deaf community for Deaf Chat Coffee, a networking event to bring the community closer together. But group members were often refused service, stared at, or told, quote, you talk funny. The US government itself sued Starbucks for discriminatory practices over 12 years ago and settled for $75,000. It's not as if discrimination is some rare phenomenon that happens in a bubble only by a few people; it's far too common and far too overlooked.
