Before cahal's work, people really thought of the brain as his tangled set of wires or fibres. And then when he demonstrated that it's actually made up of cells, just like every other organ in the body, that really, i think, changed how people think about the brain in some ways. So tell me a little bit about santiago's early childhoodbecause one of the things that really surprise me in reading your book is that he had a terrible childhood. The amount of abuse he seemed to have suffered just kind of made my stomach turn.
