The Good Place and the Bad Place

For Matthew, the Good Place is actually on Earth, like resurrected bodies. And then there's the bad place and it doesn't really get more specific than that. He just uses this placeholder of Gahana to talk about that's the bad spot. That gets developed into all kinds of imagery to express how bad it would be to be in that bad place. But yeah, my understanding is that for most Jews of that time, the idea of being excluded from that eternal life was as bad a punishment as you could ever be dealt.
