Mark Rich, the King of Oil
On January the 20th, 2001, Bill Clinton pardoned 450 people. The most controversial pardon of all was of a 66 year old man called Mark Rich. Since 1983, he had been on the run from the US authorities after having been accused of wire fraud and tax evasion. He never returned to the United States, so he could never be convicted,. but if he had been found guilty, he would have been sentenced to up to 300 years in jail.
