The way we understand digital is immaterial, you know, everything from the cloud, etc. that we've this sense that it has no materiality in its existence. But as you point out, it requires energy to store information or to create information or to manipulate information and that energy is associated with matter. If you could store information in a non-material state, let's say in space time fabric, then you would have created a medium of information that has mass itself in anon-material medium. It's a very abstract idea to actually grasp this, and this is where the biggest debate is about. In my studies, I'm not even interested at looking at pure mathematical states
