The US Secret Service's Investigation of Pandemic Fraud
The SBA Inspector General's office has estimated that fraud in these two programs comes to $106 billion. Between March and July 2020, the SBA granted 3.2 million economic injury disaster loans totaling $169 billion. There was a strong focus on speed and in the rush to get money out certain checks were dropped. The CARES Act additionally prohibited the SBA from looking at tax return data that could have excluded undeserving applicants.
